In the year 1880, Alessandro Volta, a professor of natural philosophy at the University of Pavia, built the first device capable of creating electric energy through a chemical reaction: the battery.

Little by little, the scientists improved on Volta's original idea by using various materials that made the product more efficient through offering more power and being longer-lasting.

One of the most significant modifications in the last few years has been the change from the saline to the alkaline batteries, with an electrolyte which is an alkali, from which it gets its name.

The growing concern for the environment has boosted new research and development processes in which Cegasa has been actively participating for years. So, in the year 1989, the market's first ecological battery, the Cegasa Green Energy Battery, was launched.

All Cegasa products are currently free of polluting metals and the selective collection and recycling of the batteries placed on the market are one of the group's priorities.
